What do you know about that @madmanart shit!
Tonight an amazing event is going on in Santa Monica, CA. It is the annual red bull usa canvas cooler contest exhibit. This year it is being put on by Factory West and one of my friends and favorite artists Sek Onee has been chosen out of thousands of applicants to show. The contest goes like this, 20 street artists are given red bull coolers and they go wild on them with any medium they like. It’s a free event and one of my favorite to attend every year. Check it out! You won’t regret it and make sure to vote!
The event starts at 9 and goes till midnight and will have music, art and drinks galore. So get off your lazy ass and see something!
Also check out my buddy Sek Onee on facebook and instagram and of course tumblr.
As we wake up each day its getting warmer, brighter and all over more lovely. I for one am loving it. Spring is the bringer of new things and with new things always for me and many other brings a need for change. I’m starting with going back to school and a new job and a positive outlook.
But that’s not always enough for many of us. Sometimes we need change that is visual. And what better way to do that than bring in some color to our wardrobes. I’m loving the pastels that are painting their way down the runways and into our closets this spring. Last year it was BOLD colors and this year its just a little bit softer. Last time that pastels were popular I think I was just going through a bit of a depression or something and hated with a passion. Or maybe it was that someone, somewhere told me redheads can’t wear pastels and that ruined it. But this time around I’m totally down. Now I’m not saying fill your entire closet with baby pink but taking the time to buy a few new pieces to brighten things up always puts me in a good mood. So here are some of my favorite colors to use this Spring.
Now I’ve been thinking a lot about weddings lately, I mean all women do. But I’m not talking about that fabulous white lace ensemble you’ve been dreaming about since you were six, I’m talking about what you’re going to wear to you’re boyfriends best friends wedding.
You know the dress I’m talking about! The perfect combination of celebratory sequins, or floral embellishments, or lace, and sexy without being inappropriate because lets face it who doesn’t want to get some good loving with your boyfriend after seeing two people joined in matrimony.
So here are some of my favorite picks while searching for my perfect celebration dress. Also just a few tips to keep in mind.
Eva Franco is one of my favorite dress designers. I chose this one because of it’s jewel tone color, and fun print. A classic shape also keeps it classy.
This French Connection Dress is a great example of a fun party dress, but it is lace which for me makes it wedding appropriate. But if you are going to be wearing a fun dress like this in such a bright color you need to be careful of a few things and they all come down to one thing CUT. Make sure it is not too short, or too low cut, stay with simple lines and a not too sexy or you will be the girl everybody is talking about and not in the “ooo that girls dress is so cute I wonder where she got it!” kind of way.
This dress from ASOS.com is a perfect dress to wear to a spring or summer wedding. And I LOVE a good peplum, plus the jacquard fabric is to die for and the color pops so well off of pretty much any skin tone. I think a peplum just adds so much fabulous retro flair to a dress that I can’t resist. You will want to keep your accessories simple though with so much style in your dress or it will be a bit over the top.
Of course if it’s an evening wedding you can ALWAYS do a LBD (little black dress). I like to go super Audrey with a sheath or a 50’s silhouette. This dress is great from Sue Wong is great because it has that classic sheath shape, is an appropriate length, and has a built in accessory with the jeweled collar. Again keep accessories light with maybe just stud earrings and a bracelet or it will be over the top.
So those are some of my tips and tricks for looking great at a wedding! Let me know if you have any questions or tips you’d like me to add!
Red rambler out!
So tonight I am off to the hottest theme party in LA the DTLA 90’s Prom Party being thrown by LA Canvas Magazine. And guess who’s on the list? The Red Rambler that’s who! See ya lata!
A good friend of mine is showing her work at this event this friday every who is everyone should check it out since she is insanely talented. Plus other amaze artists are showing too. Click the link to read more about it. The show is called “Looking Glass”
So I haven’t recommended a book in a while because generally all the books I’ve read most of my friends have already read…. and they are nerdy sci fi fantasy books. But here’s one that I can fully get behind.
Laurie Notaro’s The Idiot Girls’ Action Adventure Club is hilarious. This book crosses all sorts of the lines I love to cross when it comes to whats funny including but not limited to puking when nervous, being confused with a homeless person, ignoring dental problems until your face is swollen and frozen in place, getting pulled over for being drunk when not drunk but not being pulled over when you are and just generally sharing things my mother always told me your not supposed to tell people.
Also this book makes me feel a whole shitload better about my life. So what I don’t have a real job in my mid twenties and I’m living off of cereal bars! Laurie Notaro was once given a bag lunch from a lady on her way to court because they thought she was homeless when she was my age and now she is a published author! I’m doing fine…. In other words this books is a big dose of schadenfreude. And if you don’t know that word google it or go see Avenue Q.
Crochet you say?
Or if you didn’t you soon will be! I am super stoked that crochet is coming back in style big time for this summer season. I have always loved crochet because my mother makes some really warm scarves and blankets out of it, and I recently took it up as a hobby. Though my crochet skills are nothing near what it takes to make some of these beautiful items I still love them just as much. Crochet is now hitting mainstream from the runway to your closet and I’m super glad that someone took a second look at their grandmothers doilies and put these threads to use!
Now I don’t know everything there is to know about amazing crochet but its even hit the runway so I had to include some of the incredible designers who are really putting it to the test. The top photo is by Japanese designer Keita Maruyama from his AW 2010/11. Read more about this designer and others really doing cool things with crochet at http://positivelycrochet.blogspot.com/2011/09/more-crochet-on-runway.html
The Tom’s black crochet shoes I actually own and rock with everything from sweet summer dresses to skinny jeans. They are comfortable but still super stylish and cute I get compliments on them ALL the time and am considering buying them in multiple colors before they stop making them. Plus I always love Toms for doing their One for One program.
This Sabine Crochet Poncho top is all beautiful boho with none of the grandma you sometimes get when it comes to crochet clothing. Find it at for a steal. I’d wear it with bright skinny jeans, wedge sandals and super giant sunglasses and maybe a floppy hat but that’s just me. For a easier styling just stick to neutrals and you’ll be set for summer!
